Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Centre is a spacious multimedia study area located on the first floor of SSSFC. It is a quiet place where you can concentrate on your work and desks are available for you to study in small groups or individually.
Books, Magazines & DVDs
There is a large selection of text books, extended reading books, revision guides and fiction novels which students can take out of the library on loan. There are also weekly and monthly periodicals and magazines relating to a variety of subjects and current affairs. We also have a DVD library with students able to borrow DVDs to view at home or in the centre.
Computers
On each computer within the college you will find a link to 'SearchStar' our library Database. This gives you a quick and convenient method to search for suitable text books, DVDs and websites.
In the LRC, all students have free access to the computers to study, research the Web and email. There is a wide range of software available for use by students, including:
* Microsoft Word for writing essays
* Microsoft PowerPoint for creating presentations
* Microsoft Access for creating databases
* Microsoft Excel for creating spreadsheets
* Microsoft Publisher for creating print based presentations, leaflets etc
* Adobe Photoshop for manipulating images and photographs
* Adobe Illustrator for design and graphics work
* Adobe Premiere for video editing
* Adobe Sound Booth for editing sound and music
* Adobe Flash for creating animations and websites
* Adobe Dreamweaver for web design and development
All our PCs and Apple Macs have the latest software and operating systems and are regularly maintained to provide the optimum service for you as users. They are all linked to a full colour printer and a scanner. You will be provided with a college email account through which you can communicate with tutors, learning support or LRC staff. You will receive your own secure log in area in which to store all your work which can be accessed on all computers throughout the college.
Support & Assistance
The LRC Manager is available to assist you with all aspects of using the centre. If you require help with particular software or are having printing, scanning or photocopying problems please don€t hesitate to ask. The LRC manager can also help you find the best resources for your studies whether amongst our extensive library books or online.

The LRC is open from 8.15 to 4.30 Monday to Thursday and 8.15 to 4.00 Fridays.
