Moodle & Distance Learning

Moodle

The college has its own Virtual Learning Environment called Moodle. Here you can download class notes and exercises, catch up with coursework you may have missed through absence or sickness, upload assignments and essays to your teacher or take part in quizzes and surveys.

To enter the SSSFC Moodle you will use your usual log in username and password that you use on a daily basis to use the college computers. If you want to go directly to the Moodle site now, please click here and it will appear in an external window. The Address for the college Moodle is http://moodle.sssfc.ac.uk

You can access the material within your subject area of the Moodle from home, internet cafes or from the computers within the college including the LRC. YOU can also get help and support if you are unfamiliar with using Moodle by asking at the LRC desk.

A Major part of using the Moodle will be taking part in Forums. These dicussion groups allow you to swap ideas with other students, collaborate on group projects and feedback on your fellow student's work. They may be new to some students and they involve a new approach to the use of language and how your words may come across without the benefit of body language and tone (rather like texts). This has led to the development of 'Netiquette' - the guidelines on how to 'speak' to each other using the medium of text. For further information about Netiquette please click here.

Distance Learning

This is a phrase you may be familiar with and is becoming a very popular method of education. If you are thinking of going onto University or other forms of HE or FE then using a computer to access class work, course notes etc will be a routine part of your college life. Here at SSSFC you have a fantastic opportunity to become experienced in using Moodle which is widely used in education across the world.

Remote Access to your Files

Student can access their password protected student files by clicking on the 'Remote Access' icon found at the bottom of the Home page and the Student Area page. You will be able to see all your files that are held in your personal folder, work on them and save them in location.

For assistance with any of the distance learning or remote access features please see the IT Technician or the LRC Manager.
